Why is sitting considered the new smoking?
Here’s why:
• Chronic health problems: Increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers.
• Slowed metabolism
• Slowed blood flow
• Can negatively affect your mental health
• Increases the probability of cancer
Also, according to Harvard Health Publishing, after you turn 30 you lose 3% to 5% of muscle mass per decade.
So, if you sit down for long periods of time consistently without any exercise or weightlifting you will lose muscle, and your health will slowly deteriorate.
How can you prevent this?
First, you want to become informed before it’s too late. Second, you want to start taking action and prioritize it.
Start weightlifting at least 3-4X per week consistently and implement some cardio based exercise as well.
That’s all you need to do. Also, moderate to intense exercise may slow aging by 10 years.

You can also do the following to further protect yourself
• Take a break from sitting every 30 minutes
• Stand while talking on the phone or watching television
• Try working on a standing desk
• Take meetings while walking
• Get a walking treadmill and position it under your desk. So while you work you can get some steps in.
