There was a study done by Brigham Young University that found that people who did 30 to 40 minutes of high intensity cardio five days a week were biologically younger than people that were sedentary.
How much younger? Good question!
9 years!!!
It will reduce your cellular level by 9 years and this study was done with over 5,800 U.S. adults.
Researchers measured their Leukocyte Telomore Length (LTL) which is a fancy way of saying they checked how fast their cells were aging and how physically active they were.
So, people that exercise consistently have long telemores and age slower at the cellular level then less active individuals.
Another strong reason to get moving and seriously start to implement high intensive cardio into your training regimen.
I would aim for your heart rate to be around 130 BPM – 160 BPM for at least 15 – 30 minutes.
Can run, swim, bike, sprint or even walk for long periods of time. Anything is better the nothing.
Also, the earlier you do this the better. According to Harvard, starting in middle age blood vessels start to constrict and blood pressure creeps up.
Most Americans also begin to gain around 3-4 pounds a year during midlife. Worst of all, this weight is mostly all fat due to the lack of weightlifting and proper nutrition.
Unfortunately, this could result in chronic conditions down the line but can absolutely avoided with a healthy lifestyle. No better time to start then NOW!
